When Your Computer Crashes

I know it has happened to all of us.. go to turn on the computer and so long farewell... etc.. Yesterday my laptop, my lifeline, my emotional support crashed!! Oh my gosh.. how does one survive? LOL..

Fortunately for me I do have a Kindle Fire that will allow me to access much of my life until I can replace my computer. I also have some really wonderful friends who are letting me use their back up computer for a day or two.. whew... I can function!

It is amazing how huge a part the computer plays in our lives. Oh sure there are many who may not even turn theirs on.. But me, I have facebook to keep up with all of my friends and family. I have SIX blogs sure I am only active on a few at a time but any given day I could change that. I have twitter accounts for two of my blogs. I have Triberr which promotes my blogs..

And then there are my friends. The ones that I have made via my blogs.. I have two ladies who work with me on my review blogs. I have a couple of friends that interact on my blogs and share discussions with me and of course all of the authors that I pretend are my friends.. *grins* Hey I have discussions with plenty of them on a semi regular basis so they can at least be claimed as acquaintances..

It's one thing when you decide to go have a life and the computer is sitting her waiting for you.. it's a completely different matter when you can't just turn on your life..

Oh well, it's raining out but I could go play in it for a bit..

Back from Oblivion

This last week has been absolutely horrid for me.. I have been without a computer..

My story starts at Thanksgiving.. where my computer crashed with a particularly nasty virus.. Word Girl in an act of unexpected altruism offered to let me use hers until I got mine fixed. Her computer is pretty nifty, it was Christmas and I got busy.. so of course I didn't get mine fixed.. She was ok with it and was going to let me keep hers for a while.. UNTIL....

Last Monday, her computer got the exact same virus.. it was awful.. and let me tell you.. all of us were afraid.. very, very afraid... We devised ways to tell her.. like get the computer fixed before she got home and NOT tell her (didn't work out), tell her in the car with my friend, who was driving and taken me to pick her up (yeah, I didn't do that either...my bad). So I told her once we got in the building.. uhmm BIG MISTAKE.. I got to listen to about 4 hours of crying and temper tantrums..


Word Girl: When were you going to tell me?

Me: Hello? Isn't it obvious? I am telling you now.. I obviously waited as LONG as POSSIBLE to tell you.. *shakes head* Sheesh

Word Girl: You break everything.. I am texting Hair Boy!!

Me: *rolling eyes and mock quivering*

The next day she was ok.. and on Saturday we checked w/Best Buy to see how long it was going to take.. which btw, it was forever... which lead to another wonderful conversation...


Word Girl: I knew you would break it..

Me: *just letting her rant*

Word Girl: You break everything...

Me: Finally fed up... You know.. I have had my laptop for THREE YEARS.. and this is the first virus.. you have had yours for less than two and this is your THIRD.. I know I didn't give it the first two.. But I am pretty sure I PAID for it to be repaired..

Word Girl: *Silence*

Now, even though I did not have a computer I did have responsibilities that I was trying to fulfill. Namely my other blogs.. on Bodice Rippers, Femme Fatales and Fantasy I was supposed to be hosting author Caris Roane.. fortunately I have some amazing partners and they did a lot of prep work.. but I tried to stay in contact.. Let me tell you this was a challenge..

I tried to use my phone for emails.. I was succesfull but that screen is really really tiny and it's not an iPhone so you can imagine how small the screen.. For actual blog access I was able to use my kindle.. NOT a Kindle Fire which was designed for web browsing.. no, regular old kindle.. You have to go into experimental then launch your browser then maybe if you are lucky you might get your page.. and if you do get it.. I guarantee it will freeze up.. you will be posting using a keyboard about the same size as the qwerty keyboard on your phone and you won't be able to access pictures, links or various other things.. and spellcheck? yeah not happening..

Honestly, half the time I felt I was communicating like this..

other times I was sure I was using his computer..

For sure I spent a lot of time doing this

But I really felt like doing this

But I have my lifeline back and all is well.. so for a while I will be doing this..

All in all it's great to be back!!

Stupid Puter

My computer is down again, this is the second time this has happened to me since I started doing the entrecards drop. While I do not think it is entrecard, I have to wonder if anyone else has had this problem? Obviously while my computer is down I will be unable to continue dropping. I may be able to sneak a few in but for those who I visit regularly I am sorry, I will catch up as soon as I can.

I am trying to figure out what I have done differently (than over the past years) and what are the few things that are new that I continued to do. There aren't that many new things so I have to lean to a very slight window as to what is causing it.

Hopefully I will be back up and running very very soon...

A Sad Day

Last night was a traumatic one, sad to say the laptop died... we will be having a funeral for it soon... feel free to send flowers, heck send a new laptop, I am not proud.. but seriously, until I am able to drag the monster out of storage and get a wireless card for it. I am going to be computer defecient for a while.

I will be able to post my blogs, but my entre card drops are going to go way down... I am still going to visit as many of you as I can but my time on the public computer is limited so I am not sure how many or how often I will be visiting.

So if I don't see you before hand... Hope you all have a Merry Christmas!!! and a Happy New Year.
